The reasons for the latter are complex: certainly team sports reify the concept of zero-sum game that's so important to capitalism. As far as baseball itself goes, it really is "mythic" in the states in the way few things are: old Hollywood, probably. Interestingly, tho, as far as popularity goes, it hasn't been the "most popular" sport (as determined by polls & the like) for quite some time here--football (our strange, violent game, not of course what the rest of the world calls football) has been number one for many years, & there have been periods (as when the legendary Michael Jordan played professionally) that baseball has even slipped to third behind basketball. It's interesting to consider, & it may well prove the gist for an upcoming post.

Thanks!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15687192784861682991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6558468987049060912.post-73168740836232693582012-05-31T00:19:55.569-07:002012-05-31T00:19:55.569-07:00The postition baseball occupies in the American ps...The postition baseball occupies in the American psyche - being English I notice (and am sometimes puzzled by) the preponderance of baseball gear in films, etc. When I was little I used to wonder why CHarlie Brown had an enlarged left hand. The commander of Deep Space 9 has a ball on his desk (I think), etc. (There's even a "holosuite" episode where all the crew take part in a game).Dominic Rivronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02618013365521035400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6558468987049060912.post-83716669714708492812012-05-29T08:16:32.937-07:002012-05-29T08:16:32.937-07:00Hey, thanks for stopping by, Barbie, I really appr...Hey, thanks for stopping by, Barbie, I really appreciate it! :)

Yes, focus on the hits--good advice indeed :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15687192784861682991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6558468987049060912.post-84992897224089762942012-05-29T04:15:38.114-07:002012-05-29T04:15:38.114-07:00excellent. i've heard that about even the bes...excellent. i've heard that about even the best baseball players failing half the time....quite the analogy for life, wouldn't you say? focus on the hits. : )barbie angellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12708541834042912457noreply@blogger.com
